Letter from the Chair

Dear Delegates,

I'm excited to welcome you to the Ivy League Model United Nations Conference (ILMUNC) India this year!

I am a freshman in the Huntsman Program in International Studies & Business, pursuing concentrations in Finance and Operations in Wharton and a double major in International Studies and German in the College of Arts and Sciences. I am very passionate about international affairs. My interest in Model United Nations first began when I was a freshman in high school and over the following four years, MUN took me all around the world. At Penn I am a deputy director for INTERCOL, Penn’s MUN travel team. Outside of MUN and other extracurricular activities, my hobbies include running, reading, and spending time with friends.

Sincerely,
Nicholas Strauch

Letter from the Crisis Director

Dear Delegates,

Along with my chairs Leah Sprague and Nick Strauch, I could not be more excited to crisis direct this committee. My personal adaptation of a topic I studied expensively while I studied in Spain, the Spanish Civil War will push you to think about modern warfare and diplomacy like never before. With emphasis on substance, creativity, and tactical negotiation, we hope to give you a unique experience at this unique ILMUNC India.

Now, let me tell you a bit about myself. I’m currently a sophomore in the Huntsman Program in International Studies and Business studying at both Wharton and the College with a minor in Spanish. Born in Flushing, Queens, I still consider myself at least partially a New Yorker despite spending the last 15 years in East Brunswick, New Jersey, where I’ve been involved in Model UN and international relations related activities since my freshman year of high school. I’m a huge sports fan (Yankees, Giants, Knicks, Rangers), so if you want to make fun of my current misery I encourage you to do so with some caution. I am of Indian origin as well! My mom and dad both hail from Tamil Nadu, though I have had family reside in Delhi as well. This will be my first time at ILMUNC India. At Penn, I’m still heavily involved in Model UN by not only serving as a CD for ILMUNC, but also competing on Intercol, Penn’s travel MUN team, where I serve as the Head Delegate.

This committee will challenge you beyond your boundaries, make you negotiate like you’ve never negotiated before, think about crisis like you’ve never thought about crisis, and most importantly, make Model UN great again. With Nick and Leah, I aim to make sure you have a fantastic Model UN experience at ILMUNC India. Should you have any questions, feel free to email me at balajish@wharton.upenn.edu.

Sincerely,
Shravan Balaji
